Jakarta – The trend of passenger growth at Ewer Airport (IATA Code: EWE) located in Agats District, Asmat Regency, South Papua Province tends to increase.

In 2020 there were a total of 12,185 passengers, while in 2021 it grew to 21,603 passengers, until 2022 it continued to rise to 27,772 passengers.

“With the increasing number of passengers, the construction of a new air transportation passenger terminal at Ewer Airport which reaches 488 square meters is considered very appropriate, in order to provide a sense of comfort compared to the old passenger terminal which is only 120 square meters,” said Director General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation M. Kristi Endah Murni, as quoted by InfoPublik on Tuesday (4/7/2023).

Kristi hopes that in the future, the increasing trend in the number of passengers can also increase the interest of airlines to operate to open new routes at Ewer Airport.

According to her, the construction of Ewer Airport itself is a form of government attention through the Ministry of Transportation in order to build air transportation connectivity between regions and support the development of the economic potential of the Asmat Region and its surroundings.

“This connectivity is built so that all people feel the results of development, increase economic growth and equitable development in all corners of the country. More importantly, the presence of Ewer Airport is able to hack regional isolation, especially in underdeveloped, frontier, outermost and border areas (3TP) in eastern Indonesia,” he said.

For information, Ewer Airport has a runway with a length of 1,650 m and a width of 30 m which can serve the operation of ATR 72-600 type aircraft for passengers and cargo. The apron is 70 m x 90 m and the taxiway is 86 m x 15 m.

Currently Ewer Airport serves flight routes Kamur – Ewer (pp), Merauke – Ewer (pp) and Timika – Ewer (pp) operated by three airlines namely Wings Air, Trigana Air and Smart Aviation.
