Jakarta – Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has ordered the National Police’s International Relations Division to cooperate with other countries to uncover human trafficking crimes.

According to Listyo, this was done to follow up on President Joko Widodo’s instructions to eradicate the case.

“I also ask Divhubinter to cooperate with our counterpart countries to find out the syndicates that work with groups in Indonesia. Thus, when we carry out law enforcement to eradicate our people who become victims,” said the Kapolri as quoted from the official statement of the National Police Public Relations Division, Thursday (1/6/2023).

According to the Indonesian National Police Chief, data obtained shows that nine million people work abroad, five million of whom leave illegally. Therefore, the National Police is working to protect their rights.

According to Listyo, this was done to follow up on President Jokowi’s instructions in investigating the protectors of human trafficking crimes perpetrators.

“The police were given the task by the President to become the daily executor of the Task Force, which was previously manned by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection. We will immediately follow up on this to take steps,” he said.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said Indonesian President Joko Widodo had ordered the National Police Chief to eradicate the protective or backing elements of human trafficking crimes.

This is because, according to Mahfud, it is often an obstacle in efforts to prevent and eradicate trafficking in Indonesia, in addition to bureaucratic issues.
