President of Indonesia Receives US-ASEAN Business Council Delegation Visit

Bogor – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received a delegation from the United States (US) ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java Province, on Thursday (25/5/2023).

As quoted from the press release of BPMI Setpres and ANTARA News Agency, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani said that the meeting discussed various cooperation in investment and trade relations between the United States and Indonesia.

“First, regarding how Indonesia improves the ecosystem of the electric vehicle industry or electric cars which indeed Indonesia has enormous mineral resources. Second, how Indonesia can also get facilities to enter the electric vehicle market in the United States and how we can increase our role and ability to attract investment,” the Minister said.

Furthermore, the Minister said that President Jokowi said that the Government will continue to carry out economic transformation, sustainable energy, and the development of the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN).

“The President said that Indonesia will continue to carry out economic transformation both in the downstream sector and strengthen the ecosystem of the electric industry (electric vehicle) and also in terms of sustainable energy including energy transition, and also to continue to support the development of the National Capital City,” the Minister said.

In addition, the Minister said that the President and a number of companies in the energy industry discussed the issue of climate change and the importance of carbon capture technology. The Indonesian Government will also comply with commitments in dealing with climate change.

“Now we are concerned about climate change where carbon capture technology is important. The Government will continue to support policies for energy independence and resilience in Indonesia and at the same time comply with climate change commitments in Indonesia,” the Minister said.

Regarding the digital economy, the Minister said that the Indonesian Government will continue to improve communication on trade patterns, starting from the service side to the security side.

“We will continue to improve communication on how trade patterns where the digital economy is increasingly dominating, need to be balanced on the one hand with good services and faster services, but on the other hand also security and integrity,” she said.

Furthermore, the Minister said, President Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia as a country in the center of geopolitical upheaval needs to carry out global collaboration and cooperation with all parties.
