President’s Working Visit to Australia and Papua New Guinea

Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to conduct a three-day working visit to Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Australia is the first country visited by President Jokowi through Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta on Monday (3/7/2023).

“This morning I and a limited delegation will carry out a two-day visit in Sydney, Australia and one day in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea,” the President was quoted as saying in a press release.

The Head of State said that the two countries he will visit are not only close neighbors and friends but also Indonesia’s strategic partners in the Pacific.

“This visit has a very strategic value for Indonesia,” the President said.

In Australia, the Head of State will hold a series of Indonesia-Australia Annual Leaders’ Meeting (ALM) 2023 activities with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Previously, the two leaders had held the ALM in Bogor in June last year.

In addition, the President will also meet with the Governor General of Australia and Australian businessmen or CEOs who have and will invest in Indonesia.

“A number of priority agendas that will be discussed in Australia are mainly investment, trade, because there is a fairly drastic increase in trade and investment from Australia, then in the fields of health and energy transition and improving human resources,” the President said.

On Wednesday (5/7/2023), the President will continue his working visit to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. This visit is a reciprocal visit while fulfilling the invitation of Prime Minister James Marape.

“In addition to Prime Minister Marape, I will also meet with the Governor General and attend the first Indonesia-Papua New Guinea business forum,” the President said.

The Head of State is scheduled to arrive in the country on Friday (6/7/2023), the President will immediately attend the Papua Street Carnival.

“God willing, I will return to my homeland on July 6, to Papua, to Jayapura to attend the Papua Street Festival on July 7,” he concluded.
