Son Burn Father in Indonesia, Accuses Victim of Placing Curse in His Business

Medan, Indonesia Sentinel — A 25-year-old Indonesian man, identified as MA, has been arrested for allegedly burn his own father in Medan, North Sumatra. The suspect, who works as a satay vendor, reportedly believed his father had placed a curse on his business, causing it to fail.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the victim’s home on Jalan Simpang Dobi, Titi Papan subdistrict, Medan.

The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Belawan Port Police, in coordination with local law enforcement, successfully detained MA. The suspect resisted and attempted to flee during arrest, prompting police to shoot him in the leg to subdue him.

According to authorities, the suspect doused his 49-year-old father with gasoline before setting him on fire, leaving the victim with severe burns across most of his body.

Belawan Port Police Chief AKBP Janton Silaban confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect acted out of frustration and accused his father of using black magic to sabotage his business. “As a result of the attack, the victim sustained burns covering nearly his entire body,” Silaban said on Friday, February 14, 2025, as reported by Detik.

Motive Behind the Attack

According to CNN Indonesia, Police explained that the dispute between MA and his father escalated after the victim offered to give his son a ride to work. The suspect, instead of accepting the offer, reacted angrily, accusing his father of casting a spell to ruin his business.

“Dad and Mom always act nice to me, but I know Dad has been using black magic so my satay won’t sell,” MA say during questioning, as quoted by the police.

Following the argument, MA went inside the house and locked the door. MA then retrieved a bottle of gasoline, poured it over his father in the living room, and ignited it using a matchstick. The attack left the victim critically injured with extensive burns.

Neighbors who witnessed the incident immediately reported it to local authorities. The Criminal Investigation Unit of Belawan Port Police swiftly responded and arrested the suspect.

Meanwhile, the victim’s wife, Jamila, revealed that MA had hinted at his violent intentions beforehand. “He told us there would be a special surprise for Dad and Mom,” she told reporters.

MA is currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation. Due to his actions for burn his own father, MA now faces serious charges as authorities continue their investigation into the brutal attack.
