Jakarta, Indonesia – Sheila On 7, the iconic Yogyakarta-based band, has recently released their latest single, Memori Baik, which brings a fresh blend of heartfelt lyrics and catchy tunes. What’s even more fascinating is the story behind its creation, particularly the decision to record the track in Japan, which adds an international flair to the song’s production.

According to the band’s lead vocalist, Akhdiyat Duta Modjo, the song was crafted with a strong family theme and recorded in a unique way. “The production process was split 50-50, with the finishing touches done in Japan,” Duta explained during an interview in Cilandak, South Jakarta. Although the final touches were recorded abroad, the foundational work for Memori Baik was still done in Indonesia, particularly in Yogyakarta, where the band’s roots are firmly planted.

Why Sheila On 7 “Memori Baik” at Japan and Not Sweden?

While many may think that Sheila On 7’s decision to record the track in Japan was purely strategic, there was an interesting back-and-forth about which country would serve as the right setting. Duta mentioned that the band originally considered recording the song in Sweden, a place known for its vibrant music scene. However, they quickly dismissed that option due to logistical reasons.

“We thought about Sweden first, but it’s just too far. The flight alone takes so many hours, and with all the considerations in mind, we decided it was best to stay closer to home,” Duta said. Ultimately, the band settled on Japan, which, though still distant, proved to be a more feasible option.

Given the tight schedule, Sheila On 7 only had one week in Japan to complete the song. Duta admitted that the band is not the type to finish a song in a couple of days, so the one-week timeframe was a challenge. Despite the time crunch, the band successfully managed to record Memori Baik within their limited timeframe.

“We only had a week in Japan, and honestly, the budget was a consideration. We calculated that one week would be enough, so we stuck to that timeline,” Duta shared. The result is a beautifully produced track that now graces music streaming platforms worldwide.

A Family Collaboration

Adding to the uniqueness of Memori Baik is the involvement of Aishameglio Duta Chiara, Duta’s daughter. Aisha’s participation in the song added a personal and emotional touch to the track, as it aligns with the theme of family. According to Duta, Aisha was initially surprised and hesitant about being involved in the project but was ultimately excited by the opportunity.

“Aisha loves to sing, like most kids her age. She never thought she would have the chance to be a part of something like this. At first, she was a little nervous, but in the end, she was thrilled to be a part of it,” Duta said. Aisha’s involvement in the track not only brought a fresh dynamic to the song but also allowed the family to create something memorable together.

Sheila On 7’s Continued Legacy

Memori Baik is another chapter in Sheila On 7’s storied career, marking their continued ability to evolve while staying true to their musical roots. The track’s focus on family and the band’s personal connection to it resonates strongly with fans, making it another hit in their catalog.

The story behind the song’s creation—its international recording process, Duta’s daughter’s involvement, and the theme of family—adds another layer of depth to Sheila On 7’s artistry. As Memori Baik makes its rounds on digital platforms, it’s clear that the band’s commitment to creating meaningful and heartfelt music continues to inspire fans across Indonesia and beyond.
