Bandung, Indonesia Sentinel — TikTok Music, the music streaming service available in Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore and Mexico will be shutting down its operations on November 28, 2024. The announcement was made on the service’s website on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce TikTok Music will be closing on November 28, 2024,” the platform stated.
As of that date, service renewals will be automatically canceled. Users will have until October 28, 2024, to transfer their playlists to other streaming platforms. Meanwhile, refund requests can be submitted no later than November 28, 2024.
Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, explained that the shutdown decision aims to allow the company to refocus its efforts on enhancing TikTok’s core platform. One of the key goals is to increase the value of music streaming services for all stakeholders, including artists and songwriters.
TikTok has become a popular way for people to discover music, and serves as a launchpad for artists, driving their streams. It has a significant impact on increasing value for artists via streaming and fueling music discovery, per a study conducted by TikTok and entertainment data research firm Lumiate.
“Our Add to Music App feature has allowed hundreds of millions of songs to be saved to playlists on partner music streaming services. We will be shutting down TikTok Music at the end of November to focus on our goal of improving the quality and value of music streaming services for the benefit of artists, songwriters, and the industry,” said Obermann.

Despite the shutdown, TikTok will continue its partnerships with other music streaming platforms. The Add to Music feature has expanded its capabilities, allowing users to directly add tracks to playlists on major services like Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify.
The Platform formerly known as Resso, was initially launched by ByteDance in 2019, starting in Indonesia and India than later expanded to Brazil. In 2023, the platform rebranded as TikTok Music in Indonesia and Brazil, and it was subsequently made available in Singapore, Australia, and Mexico.
The service has already been blocked in India, and with its final shutdown set for November 2024, TikTok Music will officially cease operations worldwide.
