Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Global analytics firm Euromonitor International has released the “Top 100 City Destinations Index 2024”. Paris has once again been named the world’s most attractive city for the fourth consecutive year
The index evaluates cities based on six key pillars: economic and business performance, tourism infrastructure, tourism policy, health and safety, sustainability, and overall visitor experience. Paris emerged as the leader, outperforming other global cities across these metrics.
The ranking underscores the enduring appeal of the city’s romantic charm with the Eiffel Tower as its main attractions, as well as its rich cultural and artistic heritage which continue to draw millions of visitors annually.
Top 10 Most-Visited Cities in 2024
According to Euromonitor International, here’s the list of Top most-visited cities in 2024 as reported by IDN Times.

- Rome, Italy
- Milan, Italy
- New York, United States
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- Sydney, Australia
- Singapore
- Barcelona, Spain
The report highlights Europe’s dominance in the rankings, thanks to its world-class tourism infrastructure and cultural landmarks. However, Asian cities like Tokyo and Singapore also showcased significant appeal, reflecting the region’s growing influence in global tourism.
Notably, Denpasar, the capital of Indonesia’s Bali province, secured the 94th spot, just below Mecca. While it remains the only Indonesian city on the list, it lags behind regional peers like Singapore and Bangkok.
Top Cities by International Arrivals in 2024
Beyond overall attractiveness, the report also highlighted cities with the highest international tourist arrivals in 2024:
- Bangkok, Thailand – 32.4 million arrivals
- Istanbul, Turkey – 23 million
- London, United Kingdom – 21.7 million
- Hong Kong – 20.5 million
- Mecca, Saudi Arabia – 19.3 million
- Antalya, Turkey – 19.3 million
- Dubai, UAE – 18.2 million
- Macau, China – 18 million
- Paris, France – 17.4 million
- Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – 16.5 million
Bangkok topped the list with over 32 million international arrivals, driven by a robust post-pandemic recovery and its reputation as a global tourism hub.

Despite that, challenges such as overtourism emerge as a pressing concern, especially in recent years. However, cities like Paris, Tokyo, and Bangkok continue to invest in upgraded infrastructure, year-round tourism campaigns, and major cultural and sporting events to sustain their global appeal and position as world top city destinations.
