Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for potential Tidal flooding or “rob flood” in 17 regions across the country from February 24 to March 5, 2025.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast potential coastal flooding, in 17 regions across the country, including the coastal areas of Riau Islands, West Sumatra, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Papua.

“This situation is triggered by the occurrence of a new moon on February 28, 2025, and a Perigee which is a celestial phenomenon where the moon is at its closest point to Earth on March 1, 2025. Which potentially increase maximum sea levels,” BMKG said in an official statement on Sunday (February 23), as reported by Tempo.

Precautionary Measures

BMKG advises residents in affected coastal areas to avoid seaside activities during high tides, secure valuable belongings in safe locations, and stay updated through official BMKG and local government channels.
