Prevent Mpox Spread, Indonesia Enforces SATUSEHAT Health Pass for Travelers

Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — The Indonesian government is intensifying health screenings at airports for international travelers to prevent the spread of a new Mpox variant. all international travelers till now be required to complete an electronic self-declaration form called the SATUSEHAT Health Pass.

Health Ministry spokesperson M. Syahril announced that The policy applies to both Indonesian and foreign citizens.

“This stricter screening is in response to the detection of the Clade Ib variant of Mpox outside of Africa. This variant is suspected to be more severe, spreads faster, and can affect children,” Syahril stated on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

The Health Ministry has coordinated with the Ministry of Transportation regarding the implementation of the SATUSEHAT Health Pass, sending an official letter on August 26, 2024. The Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, followed up by issuing Circular Letter No. SE 5 DJPU 2024 on August 27, detailing the requirements for travelers.

The circular instructs airlines and foreign carriers to take four measures to prevent Mpox transmission into Indonesia. These measures include informing travelers about the necessity of completing the SATUSEHAT Health Pass before their departure.

“Travelers must complete the SATUSEHAT Health Pass either before or during check-in to avoid congestion at entry points,” Syahril explained.

The SATUSEHAT Health Pass form can be filled out online at sshp.kemkes.go.id, so travelers do not need to download a new app. A

fter completing the form, travelers will receive a barcode containing their health and travel history. This barcode must be scanned by airport staff upon arrival and should be kept for reference.

Syahril added that if travelers experience illness within 21 days of returning from overseas or from endemic areas, they should seek medical attention immediately and present the SATUSEHAT Health Pass barcode to healthcare providers.

“This electronic form is part of our early warning system for detecting Mpox. We urge anyone who feels unwell or exhibits Mpox symptoms within 21 days of arrival to visit a hospital and show their barcode,” Syahril concluded.
