Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Health Office (Dinkes) of Cianjur Regency, West Java, has announced a strict policy requiring any free healthcare events, including those organized by candidates participating in the 2024 local elections, to obtain prior permission from local authorities through the Cianjur Health Office. This directive aims to safeguard public health and ensure that such initiatives adhere to established medical and safety standards.

Yusman Faisal, the Head of the Cianjur Health Office, emphasized the importance of following proper procedures to avoid potential complications.

“Organizers must submit a request for permission and notify either the Health Office or the nearest hospital before conducting any free medical event. Once permission is granted, they are required to coordinate with the local health center where the event will take place,” he explained.

This requirement for permits serves to minimize risks associated with healthcare provision, particularly regarding the qualifications of medical staff and the safety of the medications administered. By having oversight from the Health Office, local authorities can ensure that all participating doctors possess valid medical licenses (SIP), as well as that nurses and other healthcare professionals meet the necessary qualifications. Additionally, it allows for the verification of the quality and appropriateness of medications used during these events.

The need for this regulation was underscored by a recent incident involving the tragic death of a resident who sought treatment at a free healthcare event organized by the candidate pair Wahyu-Ramzy. The event, held on October 26 in Naringgul District, has come under scrutiny because it reportedly lacked the required permits. The deceased, identified as Yohani, received treatment at the event but subsequently fell unconscious. She was referred from a local clinic to a hospital in Bandung, but sadly passed away during transit. The exact cause of her death is still under investigation.

In light of this incident, Faisal reiterated the importance of adhering to regulatory protocols for free healthcare services.

“We have not received any permission requests or notifications from the candidates or their campaign teams for this event, which clearly indicates it was unauthorized,” he stated.

The Cianjur Health Office continues to stress that compliance with these regulations is vital to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. They remain vigilant in monitoring health initiatives and will take necessary actions against any unauthorized activities that could jeopardize public health. This commitment reflects the broader goal of fostering a safe and responsible healthcare environment, particularly during the election period when public interest and engagement are heightened.
