Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesia’s Directorate General of Taxes (DJP), part of the Ministry of Finance, has announced steps to improve its Core Tax Administration System (Coretax) following widespread complaints from taxpayers about access issues. The new system, which officially launched on January 1, has faced challenges due to data synchronization and high user traffic during the transition period.

Dwi Astuti, DJP’s Director of Public Education, Services, and Public Relations, clarified that the reported issues are not related to server failures but are instead the result of incremental data synchronization between the old and new systems.

“There are no server-related issues. The challenges taxpayers are facing stem from the ongoing data synchronization process as we transition between two systems,” Dwi stated, as reported by Tempo on Sunday, January 12, 2024.

Dwi assured taxpayers that the synchronization process is standard during a system transition and is progressing incrementally. She acknowledged, however, that the high volume of simultaneous users and ongoing technical adjustments to the infrastructure have impacted system performance.

“We sincerely apologize to taxpayers for the inconvenience caused by these issues,” Dwi said, adding that DJP is taking steps to address the problems and restore services to normal as quickly as possible.

Six Measures to Improve Core Tax System

To resolve the issues and enhance the Core Tax system, DJP outlined six key measures:

  1. Network Expansion and Bandwidth Increase:
DJP is expanding its network and increasing bandwidth capacity to support higher data transfer volumes and improve system performance.
  2. Corporate Administration Role Designation:
The system now includes role access and designated points of contact (PICs) for administrative tasks like issuing tax invoices.
  3. Enhanced Tax Invoice Processing:
Coretax now supports XML-based tax invoice submissions of up to 100 invoices per batch. The capacity will be further expanded, and document printing features for tax invoices are being refined.
  4. Registration Improvements:
Updates include password resets, NIK-Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) matching, data updates, and electronic certificate authorization using facial recognition.
  5. Payment Enhancements:
New tools facilitate billing code creation, fund transfers, and arrears payments, including Tax Collection Letters (STP) and Tax Assessment Letters (SKP).
  6. Improved Certification and Verification Services:
Services include applications for income tax exemption certificates (SKB PPh), VAT exemption certificates (SKB PPN), taxpayer status confirmation (KSWP), and confirmation of VAT-registered entrepreneur status (PKP).

DJP remains committed to addressing technical challenges and ensuring that the Coretax system operates smoothly. These improvements aim to provide taxpayers with a more efficient and reliable platform while ensuring a seamless transition to the new system.
