Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The Indonesian animated film Garuda di Dadaku will participate in the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market in Japan, a key platform for international film co-productions. Producer Shanty Harmayn said the opportunity is crucial, given Japan’s status as the global hub of animation.
“We see Japan as the main center of animation and anime, and since this is our first animated feature, we want to meet and learn from other animation studios,” Shanty said, as reported by Variety on Tuesday (October 28, 2025).
The project has been in development for three years, but Shanty noted that finding the right financial and investment scale has taken time. “Preparing this project has taken longer because it’s our first feature-length animated film and we’re working with a new team,” she said.
So far, BASE Entertainment has secured South Korea’s Barunson E&A as the film’s investor and sales agent. “We plan to release the film theatrically in Indonesia in the first half of 2026,” Shanty added.
The film marks the directorial debut of Ronny Gani, a veteran visual effects (VFX) artist who has worked on major Hollywood productions, including titles from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Transformers: Age of Extinction, Aquaman, Ready Player One, and Pacific Rim.

“This project is our chance to create something that will resonate with movie lovers, animation fans, and football-loving families in Indonesia,” Ronny said on October 1, 2024.
Synopsis of Garuda di Dadaku
The film follows Putra, a 14-year-old boy with asthma who dreams of playing for Indonesia’s national soccer team. After being mocked during tryouts at the Sanca Perkasa Soccer School, he discovers a mystical jersey from Gaga, the glowing spirit of the Garuda that grants him speed, strength, and extraordinary skills.
Blending adventure, drama, humor, and sports action, Garuda di Dadaku promises to deliver an emotional and visually dynamic story. The film is slated for nationwide release in 2026, marking a new chapter for the beloved Garuda di Dadaku franchise, which first captured audiences in 2009.
