Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated 481 pairs of regional leaders elected in the 2024 regional elections at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (Februari 20). A total of 961 regional leaders have now been sworn in for the 2025-2030 term under Prabowo’s administration.
The inauguration ceremony took place in the central courtyard between the Presidential Palace buildings in Central Jakarta. The event began with a ceremonial procession from the National Monument (Monas) to the State Palace.
According to Detik, the 961 regional leaders sworn in included 33 governors and their deputies, 363 regents and 362 deputy regents, as well as 85 mayors and their deputies. The officials marched into the palace complex accompanied by a marching band playing “Maju Tak Gentar” after gathering at Monas, located across from the palace.
Inauguration Process
The inauguration process began with the reading of the Presidential Decree (Keppres) and the Minister of Home Affairs Decree (Kepmen) concerning the appointments. President Prabowo then administered the oath of office, first asking the newly elected officials if they were willing to take the oath according to their respective religious beliefs.
Prabowo recited the oath on behalf of God, which was repeated by the regional heads based on their faiths. Six representatives symbolically took the oath according to the six officially recognized religions in Indonesia, standing in front of the remaining 955 regional leaders as Prabowo officiated the ceremony from the podium.
For provincial-level officials, their appointments were formalized through Presidential Decree No. 15 P of 2025 and Presidential Decree No. 24 P of 2025. Meanwhile, regents and mayors were inaugurated based on the Minister of Home Affairs Decree No. 100.2.1.3-221 of 2025 and No. 100.2.1.3-1719 of 2025, which confirmed the election results from the 2024 regional elections for the 2025-2030 term.
Following the oath-taking, the newly inaugurated leaders received their official insignias and signed the inauguration documents.
Leadership Retreat
President Prabowo provided only brief remarks during the event, stating that he would soon meet with the newly inaugurated leaders in Magelang for a retreat organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
After the inauguration, the newly appointed officials are scheduled to participate in a leadership retreat at Lembah Tidar, the Indonesian Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java, from February 21 to 28.
Regional leaders from Aceh, who were sworn in earlier in a separate ceremony, will also attend the retreat. Those officials were invited to the palace on Thursday as guests to witness the mass inauguration.
Prabowo jokingly remarked that any officials hesitant about attending the retreat could resign.
