Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — In celebration of Kartini Day on April 21, 2025, the Jakarta Provincial Government will offer free public transportation to all female passengers.
“There’s a special gift from the Governor for the public on April 21,” said Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo in a press release published on the city’s official website. “Coinciding with Kartini Day, all female passengers will be able to ride public transit for free.”
The city will also provide free public transit for all residents on April 24 to mark Indonesia’s National Transportation Day.
“On April 24, everyone will have access to free rides all day long across TransJakarta BRT and Non-BRT services, Mikrotrans, MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta,” Syafrin added.
In the statement, Syafrin outlined the implementation of free transit services for 15 groups of eligible Jakarta residents. These include civil servants and retirees, contract workers for the Jakarta government, students receiving KJP Plus education aid, residents of public housing, members of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), and employees earning minimum wage.
Eligible individuals must register through Bank DKI to receive free access via the TransJakarta Free Service Card (KLG), which can also be used on MRT and LRT Jakarta.

Registration can be completed through the TransJakarta, MRT Jakarta, or LRT Jakarta apps, covering the process from data submission to verification and card activation, available in both physical and digital formats.
Syafrin emphasized that those who already possess a TransJakarta Free Service Card can immediately use it to access MRT and LRT services at no cost.
The free public transportation initiative reflects Jakarta ongoing efforts to promote inclusive mobility and recognize the contributions of various community groups through accessible and equitable public transportation.
