Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — The first gubernatorial debate for Jakarta 2024 regional elections is set to take place Central Jakarta on Sunday October 6. A total of 1,634 security personnel will be deployed to ensure the smooth running of the event.

The Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU DKI Jakarta) is set to hold the first debate for gubernatorial and vice-gubernatorial candidates in the Jakarta regional election today, Sunday. The event will take place at Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, starting at 7 p.m. local time.

Ade Ary emphasized that the police have already laid out a comprehensive security plan for the debate. The officers are prepared to safeguard the proceedings and ensure that everything runs smoothly.

“For the first debate, Metro Jaya Police have devised a detailed security plan to ensure the event proceeds without incident. Our security approach will focus on preventive measures, supported by detection capabilities and law enforcement,” he explained.

Security Deployment

Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto had earlier confirmed that thousands of personnel would be deployed to secure the first Jakarta gubernatorial debate, ensuring that the event proceeds safely and without any disruptions.

“We will ensure that all security aspects are well maintained and that no threats will interfere with the event,” said Inspector General Karyoto in a statement on Saturday (October 5).

Karyoto also urged the heads of various regional and operational units to maintain close coordination with the military (TNI) and other stakeholders throughout the 2024 election process. He further stressed the importance of keeping the atmosphere calm and stable.

Additionally, Karyoto reminded all officers involved to uphold their neutrality during the 2024 regional elections. The two-star general emphasized that the police force must maintain professionalism to safeguard the institution’s reputation.

“I remind all personnel to uphold neutrality, avoiding any political bias that could benefit or disadvantage any of the regional election candidates,” Karyoto reiterated.
