Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Indonesian President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, was awarded the prestigious “Loka Praja Samrakshana” public safety and security medal. The honor was presented by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo during a ceremony at the Mobile Brigade Headquarters (Mako Brimob) in Kelapa Dua, Depok, on Monday, October 14, 2024.
This award recognizes Jokowi’s significant role in the development of the Bhayangkara Corps (Indonesian National Police) and his contributions to public safety during his tenure.
The medal symbolizes the appreciation of the National Police for Jokowi’s efforts in strengthening the organization’s capacity.
During the ceremony, Jokowi also bestowed honors upon seven units within the National Police by presenting them with the “Nugraha Sakanti” award. This decoration is reserved for units that have rendered exceptional service in law enforcement and contributed meaningfully to the country.
Among the recipients were the Mobile Brigade Corps (Korbrimob), Traffic Corps (Korlantas), Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim), Densus 88 Anti-Terror, the Police Medical and Health Center (Pusdokkes), the Security Maintenance Agency (Baharkam), and the International Relations Division.
The “Nugraha Sakanti” honor acknowledges the extraordinary efforts of these units in maintaining law and order, making them stand out for their service to the nation.
President Jokowi attended the event alongside President-elect Prabowo Subianto. The two leaders participated in a review of the security forces, which are preparing for the upcoming inauguration of Indonesia’s new president and vice president. N
otably, both Jokowi and Prabowo donned blue berets and arrived in a Maung vehicle, a locally manufactured military vehicle by PT Pindad, symbolizing unity and continuity as Indonesia transitions to its next administration.
General Listyo Sigit Prabowo explained that the Loka Praja Samrakshana award is rooted in Sanskrit, with “Loka” and “Praja” both referring to the nation and its people. The term “Loka” can be interpreted as a territory or country, while “Praja” specifically refers to the citizens or society. Combined, the phrase signifies the protection and security of the people, country, and state.
According to Atin Fi, a linguistic expert from the University of Indonesia, the use of Sanskrit for this medal’s name reflects deep historical and cultural connections within Indonesia. The phrase underscores the importance of public safety and security as foundational elements for the nation’s well-being.
Jokowi’s administration has emphasized the development of Indonesia’s security forces, particularly in addressing the country’s evolving safety challenges, from terrorism to civil protection.
