Jakarta – The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy / Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Menparekraf / Kabaparekraf) fully supports the development of culture-based tourism in Bali as an effort to revive the economy and create jobs after the COVID-19 pandemic.

In “The Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno” at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, Monday (12/6/2023), Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bali Provincial Government prioritized the development of tourism based on tradition and culture. “So our tourism tagline is now ‘quality and dignified culture-based tourism’,” said Tjok Bagus.

On the occasion, Tjok Bagus explained that as an effort to develop tourism based on tradition and culture in Bali, the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster also issued a regulation regarding the prohibition of mountain climbing in Bali. The ban was issued based on the opinion of a number of Hindu religious leaders in Bali who said that the mountains in Bali are sacred places for Hindus.

“This mountain is a sacred place in Bali so we want to glorify this mountain again. Because if it is not glorified, then Bali can be abandoned (tourists) as a world tourist destination,” he said.

Nevertheless, Tjok Bagus revealed that his party did not let mountain tour guides in Bali lose their jobs. “Yesterday we gathered 186 mountain tour guides in Bali and we transformed them into contract workers (at the Bali Provincial Government),” said Tjok Bagus.

Responding to this, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said that his party would coordinate further with the Bali Provincial Government to follow up on this matter. However, Sandiaga said that basically Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy supports efforts to develop tourism based on tradition and culture.

“The concept of quality and dignified culture-based tourism is in line with what we want to develop in our tourism recovery,” Sandiaga said.
