Manado, IndonesiaSentinel.com — A tragic bus accident in Manado, North Sulawesi, on Tuesday (September 17, 2024), claimed the lives of two elementary school students and left eight others injured. The accident occurred on Ring Road in the Griya Paniki Indah (GPI) housing area as the bus, an Isuzu Elf with license plate DB 7030 AA, was transporting 10 students from GPI to GPdI Berea Elementary School in Mapanget.
The bus reportedly lost control and overturned while navigating a bend in the road. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the bus was moving slowly before it suddenly swerved and flipped over. “I saw the bus moving very slowly, and then it suddenly overturned,” a witness recounted in a video that captured the aftermath of the crash.
In the video, a man wearing a black floral shirt, believed to be the bus driver, can be seen explaining that the vehicle became unstable. “I lost control there,” he said, pointing to the spot where the accident occurred.

Local residents rushed to the scene to help the injured students and quickly transported them to Hermina Hospital in Minut. Despite their efforts, two children were pronounced dead, while eight others were treated for various injuries.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
