Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — American pop star Billie Eilish has publicly endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, joining a growing list of celebrities rallying behind the former vice president. Earlier, singer Taylor Swift had also thrown her support behind Harris.
Eilish shared her endorsement in an Instagram video alongside her brother, urging her followers to register to vote. In the video, the siblings expressed their plans to cast their ballots for Harris in the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, podcaster Joe Rogan praised Harris’s campaign team for their messaging and her performance during recent debates. Although Rogan stopped short of a formal endorsement, his comments provided implicit support for Harris’s candidacy.
The support from these high-profile figures comes in the wake of Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement following the latest debate. Celebrity endorsements like these could play a key role in energizing younger voters—a demographic both campaigns are vying to attract.
Rogan’s comments, although not an outright endorsement, may resonate with his audience, potentially challenging President Trump’s strategy to appeal to young male voters, many of whom make up Rogan’s listener base.
“They did an incredible job, especially after Biden was forced out,” Rogan said of Harris’s campaign team during a podcast episode recorded on September 11. “Whoever is writing those speeches and coaching her, she’s nailing it.”
Rogan has been a polarizing figure, having faced criticism for spreading misinformation and making controversial statements. Despite this, his influence remains significant. He has previously expressed support for both Bernie Sanders and Trump in past elections, and more recently showed favor toward independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the 2024 election.
Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, ranks as the number one podcast on Spotify and is consistently in the top five on Apple Podcasts.
Billie Eilish, who, along with her brother, has a massive combined following of 123 million on Instagram, made her stance clear in the video:
“We’re voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they’re fighting to protect our reproductive freedoms, our planet, and our democracy,” Eilish said. “Vote like your life depends on it, because it does.”
The Harris campaign’s Instagram account responded to Eilish’s post with a playful nod to her music, captioning the post, “Birds of a feather,” along with a heart emoji.
Other prominent Hollywood figures have also voiced their support for Harris, including Oprah Winfrey, who has campaigned alongside the candidate this week. Winfrey’s endorsement carries weight; according to economists Craig Garthwaite and Timothy Moore, her backing of Barack Obama in 2008 helped secure approximately one million votes during his first presidential bid.
While celebrity endorsements may not always be game-changers, polls showing a tight race between Harris and Trump suggest that efforts to motivate voters, especially young ones, could play a pivotal role in the election’s outcome.
