Jakarta – The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) began implementing the seventh Agricultural Census 2023 (ST2023) across Indonesia on June 1-July 31, 2023. The implementation of ST2023 also refers to FAO program.
BPS Principal Secretary Atqo Mardiyanto said that the implementation of ST2023 is expected to be able to provide a comprehensive picture of agricultural conditions in Indonesia to the smallest region.
Through an official statement received by InfoPublik on Friday (2/6/20203) Atqo said that the data from ST2023 is also used as a sample frame for agricultural surveys and as a benchmark for existing agricultural statistics.
“And most importantly, ST2023 data is expected to be a reference in the preparation of strategic policies in the agricultural sector, thus improving the quality of the formulated policy design,” Atqo said.
President Joko Widodo stated that agriculture is a strategic sector and involves the livelihood of many people. Thus, the need for ST2023 data accuracy to produce policy accuracy.
“I support the implementation of ST2023 so that the census really produces accurate, up-to-date, and reliable data,” President Jokowi said.
He invited all parties to work together to make ST2023 a success. BPS also received support from various parties, ranging from ministries/agencies, local governments, universities, mass media, and many more.
The Agricultural Census is conducted every ten years in years ending in 3 as mandated by Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 16 of 1997 on Statistics.
ST2023 aims to provide data on the structure of agriculture, especially for the smallest administrative units, provide data that can be used as a benchmark for current agricultural statistics.
As well as providing a sample frame for agricultural surveys. ST2023 will cover seven subsectors, namely food crops, horticulture, plantations, livestock, fisheries, forestry, and agricultural services.
In ST2023, agricultural businesses throughout Indonesia will be recorded, both individual agricultural business units, other agricultural business units (in groups), and agricultural companies incorporated.
Mobilize 190,000 Officers for SP2023
A total of 190 thousand officers throughout Indonesia were mobilized by BPS to record agricultural business actors. Various innovations were made in ST2023, one of which was in terms of data collection methods.
ST2023 uses multi-mode data collection, namely the Paper Assisted Personal Interviewing (PAPI), Computed Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI), and Computer Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI) methods.
ST2023 is designed to obtain international standard results using guidelines from FAO. Thus, it is expected that ST2023 can produce better data accuracy than the previous census.
What is also different is that ST2023 is able to capture strategic issues in national agriculture, such as urban farming, millennial farmers, agricultural modernization, and also farmer income as a proxy for farmer welfare.
The active participation of all agricultural business actors is highly expected for the success of ST2023. Accept the arrival of census officers at your home on June 1-July 31, 2023. Let’s record Indonesian Agriculture together for Food Sovereignty and Farmers’ Welfare.
