Indonesia Calls for Unity of Southeast Asian Nations at 2023 ASEAN Summit

Labuan Bajo – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called for unity in all countries in Southeast Asia, to bring peace to the region and open up opportunities for massive economic growth in the future.

“As long as one key is unity. With unity, ASEAN will be able to become a central player in bringing peace and world growth,” President Jokowi said when opening the 42nd ASEAN 2023 Summit at Meruorah Hotel, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday (10/5/2023).

According to the President, unity is needed to maximize the potential of ASEAN countries. Among others, the economic epicenter that is above other countries in general, demographic bonus, regional stability, health architecture, food architecture, energy, financial stability, and economic integration that will strengthen in the future.

The President is optimistic that by maximizing the existing potential and working together among ASEAN countries, Southeast Asia can become the epicenter of world economic growth.

“We have strong assets as the epicenter of economic growth,” the President said.

Unity, the President continued, can overcome various challenges such as the global economy that has not recovered, rivalries are getting sharper, and the dynamics of the world are increasingly unpredictable among ASEAN countries.

“Unity can be a motor of peace and growth. ASEAN can,” the President said.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will chair five meetings of the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023 at Meruorah Hotel, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province.

The meetings led by President Jokowi include the 42nd ASEAN Summit (Opening and Plenary Session), ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting with Representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting with Representatives of ASEAN Youth, ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting with Representatives of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), and ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting with the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV).

The five series of ASEAN Summit meetings will be closed directly by President Joko Widodo in the evening. Coinciding with welcoming dinner activities at Ayana Komodo Waecicu Beach. (InfoPublik)
