Jakarta, Indonesia sentinel — Jamaludin Malik, a newly elected member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for the 2024-2029 period, made headlines during his inauguration on October 1, 2024, by wearing a striking Ultraman costume.

This bold move not only drew attention within the Indonesian Parliament in Senayan, Jakarta, but also sparked curiosity and discussions among the public and the media.

Jamaludin’s unique appearance in the Ultraman costume was not a one-time event. During his campaign for a seat in the DPR representing the Central Java II electoral district, which covers Demak, Jepara, and Kudus, Jamaludin consistently used this superhero costume as a signature element of his political identity.

His campaign strategy, which included dressing up as Ultraman, resonated with voters, as he positioned the character as a symbol of justice, strength, and a fighter against corruption and wrongdoing.

When asked by reporters about his decision to wear the costume during the parliamentary inauguration, Jamaludin explained that he wanted to maintain his unique style from his campaign.

“It’s my signature,” he said, smiling.

He emphasized that the Ultraman character symbolizes a hero who fights against evil, a quality he hopes to embody during his tenure in the DPR. He acknowledged that while his costume might be unconventional, it carried a deeper meaning that reflected his commitment to serving the people.

Despite his flashy entrance, Jamaludin Malik is focused on his role as a representative of the people. He mentioned that he is prepared to comply with any directives from his party, the Golkar Party, regarding his parliamentary duties, including which commission he will serve on.

His lighthearted response to the media about his assignment, stating that he would “just follow orders,” highlighted his humility and willingness to adapt to the party’s decisions.

Jamaludin’s electoral success in Central Java II was notable. He secured his seat in the DPR by earning a significant 118,402 votes, making him one of the top-performing candidates in his district, second only to Nusron Wahid, a fellow Golkar politician. His victory was officially confirmed by the General Elections Commission (KPU) in the decision numbered 1206 of 2024, which outlined the elected members of the DPR based on the results of the 2024 election.

However, despite his public persona, Jamaludin has chosen to maintain a degree of privacy. His full profile remains unpublished on the KPU’s Info Pemilu platform, which typically provides detailed information about candidates.

This decision has added an air of mystery to his character, allowing the focus to remain on his political journey rather than his personal life.

Wealth and Assets of Jamalaudin Malik

In terms of financial disclosure, Jamaludin reported a total net worth of Rp 3.876 billion through his submission to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). His assets include seven parcels of land and buildings in Jepara, valued at approximately Rp 2.005 billion, as well as three motorcycles and three cars, worth a combined total of Rp 1.851 billion. He also reported cash assets of Rp 20 million and has no outstanding debts.

Jamaludin Malik’s Ultraman costume may have caused a stir during the DPR inauguration, but it also reinforced his image as a political figure with a unique approach to public service. Whether or not his superhero persona will continue to feature in his political career remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: his bold and unconventional methods have certainly left an impression
