Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Gun violence affecting the music industry is still happening. Recently legendary guitarist Jake E Lee, best known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne, has been shot in Las Vegas. According to Rolling Stone on Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2024), the incident occurred on Tuesday morning, October 15, while Lee was walking his dog.

Jake E Lee was shot multiple times, though the exact number of gunshot wounds is yet to be confirmed.

A representative for Lee issued a statement saying that the musician is expected to make a full recovery. “Jake is fully conscious and in stable condition at the intensive care unit of a Las Vegas hospital. He is expected to recover completely,” the statement said.

The shooting is currently under investigation by authorities in Las Vegas. Early reports suggest the incident was a random act of violence, with the shooter firing indiscriminately, causing Lee to be hit several times. Fortunately, his injuries are not life-threatening.

“Las Vegas authorities believe the shooting was entirely random and occurred while Lee was out walking his dog in the early hours,” the statement continued. “As the incident is still under police investigation, there will be no further comments. Lee and his family deeply appreciate their privacy at this time.”

A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that no arrests have been made. “Officers responded to a shooting incident in the 11000 block of Alora Street, located in the southern part of Las Vegas,” the department said in a statement. “Upon arrival, they found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital. No arrests have been made at this time.”

Ozzy Osbourne, reacting to the news of his former guitarist’s shooting, expressed his shock and dismay. Speaking to TMZ, Osbourne said, “It’s been 37 years since I last saw Jake E Lee, but that doesn’t lessen the shock of hearing what happened to him today. It’s just another senseless act of gun violence. My heart goes out to him and his beautiful daughter, Jade. I only hope he’ll be okay.”

Jake E Lee, born in Norfolk, Virginia, and raised in San Diego, rose to prominence when he joined Ozzy Osbourne’s band in the early 1980s. He played on two of Osbourne’s iconic albums, Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin, and was part of the band from 1982 to 1987, recording albums and touring extensively.

After his time with Osbourne, Lee formed the band Badlands with former Black Sabbath singer Ray Gillen and drummer Eric Singer of Kiss, releasing three albums. In 2013, he formed a new band, Red Dragon Cartel, which went on to release two albums: Red Dragon Cartel in 2014 and Patina in 2018.

As the investigation unfolds, the music community and fans are rallying behind Lee, hoping for his swift and full recovery.
