Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing a hefty property tax bill of over £100,000 (approximately Rp2 billion) just days before the Duke’s 40th birthday, when he is set to inherit from the Queen Mother. The tax is levied on their £11 million (Rp221 billion) estate in Montecito, California, where they reside with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
Since stepping down from royal duties and moving to the U.S. in 2020, Harry and Meghan have lived in a lavish mansion with nine bedrooms, a pool, and stunning views of the Santa Ynez Mountains.
According to reports from Mirror, their latest property tax bill for 2024 exceeds £100,000, following a £112,000 (Rp2.25 billion) bill paid in 2023.
The couple, who paid their previous year’s tax in two installments, are now facing this new charge just before Harry’s birthday on September 15, when he is expected to receive a portion of his inheritance from the Queen Mother’s trust fund. The inheritance, set up in 1994, is estimated to be worth £19 million (Rp382 billion), with Harry’s share believed to be around £7 million (Rp141 billion).
This fund was established by the Queen Mother as a tax-efficient way to pass wealth to her great-grandchildren. Payments from the trust began when they turned 21, with a larger sum given at age 40. Harry is expected to receive a larger portion than his older brother, Prince William.
