Jakarta, IndonesiaSentinel.com — The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for potential coastal flooding, also known as “rob floods,” due to the Supermoon phenomenon affecting various coastal regions in Indonesia until September 23, 2024. Residents are urged to stay alert to the risk of this natural disaster.

“The Supermoon event on September 18, 2024, may cause a rise in maximum sea levels. Based on water level monitoring and tidal predictions, rob floods are likely in several coastal areas of Indonesia,” said Eko Prasetyo, Head of BMKG’s Maritime Meteorology Center, in an official statement on Friday (September 13, 2024).

Eko highlighted that coastal regions at risk include the shores of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and East Kalimantan.
