Jakarta, Indonesia Sentinel — Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary To Lam is set to visit Indonesia from March 9-11. He will meet with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between Vietnam and Indonesia.
According to a statement from Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on Friday (March 7), the visit aims to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation between the two nations.
“During his visit, General Secretary To Lam will meet with President Prabowo Subianto to discuss potential collaborations that could elevate Indonesia-Vietnam relations to a higher level,” Kemlu stated.
This marks To Lam’s first visit to Indonesia as the CPV’s General Secretary and holds significant importance as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Vietnam.
In Vietnam’s political structure, the position of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) is the highest-ranking political leadership role, surpassing the country’s president, prime minister, and chairman of the National Assembly.
Aside from meeting Prabowo, To Lam is also scheduled to hold talks with the leaders of Indonesia’s People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), House of Representatives (DPR), and Regional Representative Council (DPD). He will also participate in a business forum with Indonesian and Vietnamese entrepreneurs.

“In terms of trade, bilateral transactions have doubled over the past five years, reaching $16.7 billion in 2024. Both countries have set a target of achieving $18 billion in trade by 2028,” Kemlu stated.
